Above - Ken Maynard's younger brother Kermit starred in a batch of mountie and western films for Ambassador-Conn in the mid 1930s.  Kerm's white horse was named Rocky, and is shown on the left in the above lobby card.  His helper on the far right is comedian Fuzzy Knight, and Kerm is giving aid to Olympic champion Jim Thorpe, who played a number of Indian roles in westerns during the 1930s.

Above, from L-to-R, are an unidentified player, Kermit Maynard and John Merton.  This scene is from GALLOPING DYNAMITE (Ambassador/Conn, 1937), another in the series of low-budget mountie flicks and westerns that starred the younger Maynard, a fine horseman and trick rider.  Note the extra long saddle horn which provided a grip for all of the tricks and stunts Kerm did atop Rocky.

Above, Bob Allen rode Pal during their brief series of sagebrush adventures at Columbia Pictures in the late 1930s.  Allen's costume and horse was a mandatory as his films made use of stock footage from the Columbia Ken Maynard series, which preceeded Allen's films.

Above, Duncan Renaldo (right) played the Cisco Kid, and Leo Carrillo (left) was his trail partner Pancho. Renaldo starred as Cisco in several Monogram films (but was replaced by Gilbert Roland). Later, Renaldo reprised the Cisco role in films released via United Artists, and continued the portrayal in the TV series. Cisco's paint hoss was named Diablo and Pancho's palomino was named Loco. Renaldo rode several hosses during his reign as the Cisco Kid, including a white during the series at Monogram Pictures. The above image is probably a still from THE DARING CABALLERO (United Artists, 1949).

Above - another image of Renaldo riding the paint Diablo which was owned and trained by Ralph McCutcheon. McCutcheon was also the owner of the overo paint horse Dice (Pair O'Dice) which was ridden by John Carroll in the serial ZORRO RIDES AGAIN (Republic, 1937).
